IRI Europe provides news, analysis, facts and comment on all aspects of the initiative and referendum (I&R) process, one of the most powerful political trends in Europe at the beginning of the 21st century.

IRI Europe was founded in 2001 to become the premier European research and educational institute on direct democracy. Its mission is to provide non-partisan facts, news and analysis on the initiative and referendum for the whole of Europe.

Demopunk Net have collaborated with this organization translating to spanish the "Country Index on Citizen Lawmaking. 2002". This annual report rates degree of development of Direct Democracy in 32 europan countries, including a detailed list with valuable practical information.

We must point out spanish rating is too optimistic, and even worst, it includes some severe errors. Despite of Demopunk Net has notified them, editors have preferred to maintain the original redaction. Hopefully, next annual reports will correct this erroneous report about Spain.


Network for Direct Democracy Initiatives in Europe, NDDIE

This network pretends to contact with citizien initiatives leading to create procedures on Direct Democracy in their own states, as well in european institutions level. As Direct Democracy it manages procedures related to popular initiative and binding referendum.

The netowrk have achieves to establish nodes in different european countries: Belgium, Germany, UK, Spain and Czech Republic. However, the network are still growing, therefore we encourage groups, organizations and motivated persons to contact it.
